About NWUA
Role
NWUA is the representative body of
fourteen higher education institutions in
the North West of England and within this role NWUA has two key objectives:

To provide a means whereby member institutions may co-ordinate their regional
activities and identify opportunities for collaborative action so as to
maximise their contribution to the social, economic and cultural life of the
North West of England and develop partnerships with business, industry and
public bodies accordingly.

To facilitate and effect such joint activities or collaborations within the
Region with Members and/or non-members, as agreed by the
member institutions.
NWUA Structure & Governance
NWUA is a membership organization with a Board which consists of
the Heads of Institution of the fourteen
member institutions. Chaired
by Professor Paul Wellings, Vice Chancellor, University of Lancaster, the Board
meets on an annual basis, with a remit to agree the strategic and operational
framework for NWUA and its associated governance structure. Additional meetings
for special purposes are also arranged by the NWUA Board Chair in response to
significant strategic and policy issues.
The Board is supported by a Management Board which has detailed responsibility
for the strategic direction and management of NWUA and for overseeing
institutional engagement. Chaired by Mrs Denise Stewart, Pro-Vice-Chancellors + Director of Finance,
Liverpool John Moores University, the Management Board membership
is at the level of Deputy/Pro Vice Chancellor (or equivalent). The NWUA
Management Board meets quarterly and has a broad remit, spanning strategy and
policy and executive matters.
Strategy & Policy
NWUA’s core remit is to identify and facilitate collective HE
engagement with key regional, national and international agendas and
partners where there is the potential
to add value to member institutions by employing a regional HE sectoral
approach. NWUA strategy and policy interests span a wide range of agendas
