This project commenced on 1st July 2008 and was completed on 30th September 2010.
Funded by
HEFCE,
the project aimed to contribute to the regional legacy of the London 2012 Games by facilitating the development and delivery of higher level sport volunteering and coaching skills to meet the needs of North West sport community partners.
The two main objectives for the project were to:
- Complete a research exercise to ascertain the viability of developing and delivering demand-led higher level skills provision to meet the regional sport volunteering and coaching needs associated with the 2012 Games and other major regional events
- Develop a HE database with the aim of maximising the co-ordination and utilisation of higher education student volunteers and coaching placements across the regional sport community, enhancing the skills and employability of North West graduates
Therefore as part of the project, NWUA in association with British Universities and Colleges Sport (BUCS), produced an audit of sport volunteering and coaching across North West universities.

NWUA also commissioned Byng Systems to develop a HE sports volunteering and coaching version of the CoachWeb System.
CoachWeb is an online coach management tool that is currently implemented by 32 of the 49 County Sports Partnerships (CSPs) across England.
The HE-specific system, entitled VolunteerWeb, matches students with placement opportunities and subsequently allows them to build CVs of skills, qualifications and experience.
The system was piloted during August and September 2010 and is now available to implement for all North West universities. For more information on the VolunteerWeb system please contact Ollie Maitland, Byng Systems, on ollie@byng-systems.com
